Lets do the math;

If it where 1% it would be 1/100
If it where 0.1% it would be 1/1000
If it is 99.99% that need not apply then 0.01% would pass, meaning 1/10,000 would get through.

So, 1 in 10,000 would pass, according to wikipedia there are 7500 royal marines, so that means there would have to be 75,000,000 people in the united kingdom. According to www.statistics.gov.uk there are 60,975,000 people in the united kingdom. So, it is actually, 1/8130.

Royal Marines, 99.9877% need not apply. Not quite as good as 99.99% need not apply.

As a mathematician i can say that its accurate enough, amazing though when you think about it, didn't realise that they had actually calculated it relative to the population.

Well if you count all the people who are eligible to apply like the folks from the British Commonwealth countries then the %age will be above 99.99% haha

Guys, the saying more or less means, not everybody has got what it takes to become a Royal Marine Commando. Many will try, but only a small percentage will make it through.

Their reputation for fitness, ardous training,endurance & professionalism in the field, along with their repetoire of fighting skills precedes them amongst the world's elite soldiers.

They are the cream of the crop. However, with this reputation comes the highest of standards that are required to make the grade. Which is by no means easy. Its not going to be, nor is it meant to be easy.

There is, undoubtedly, a high failure rate, and people don't make the grade for all kinds of reasons.

But, if you want to be part of this family bad enough and have the guts and determination to succeed where others have failed.

Then, you're exacly what the Corps are looking for.
