Any suggestions as to the location for the film? Malta or Cyprus are obvious candidates but the clip of the briefing map is indistinct.

...will know the history of it.
The map in the film might be deliberately misleading. My hunch (and most of my hunches are wrong) is that it could be the north western coast of Malta near Golden Bay.

It was the guy free climbing up the cliff that got me! I’d never thought of it before and somehow assumed they’d have at least basic climbing gear!

A clue is in the SQ title of the time, CL, i.e. Cliff Leader, later Recce Leader, but now Mountain Leader. Their job was to free climb and then set up the ropes for the troops to climb.....simple really, unless you're the CL, RL or ML out the front leading the way, but that's what makes them so special.

It's a cracking film. Attempting to date when it was actually filmed. Officially it's 1960 but the blokes are carrying Lee-Enfields, Sterling SMGs and .303 Brens which suggests (if I count on my fingers) 1956 or 1957.
Clearly I have too much time on my hands. :(

I think it's around 1959 to 1960, as the clip around 17 minutes shows them with SLRs!

A bump and repost of Operation Snake Eyes, a 25 minute video of an exercise which includes the SBS, filmed in 1960

FairPlay the way their scaling that near enough vertical cliff face like there’s no gravity! At 9.10

Oh, I figured that the film was a composite but I hadn't noticed the switch from the amphibious landing (where everyone carried Lee-Enfields) to SLRs.

Yep, no messing about. :)
If the location is where I think it is there was a long-established military barracks less than one mile from the cliff top.
