Many received exam results yesterday and GCSE ‘A’ Level results are out today.
To those who achieved or exceeded forecast results, congratulations!

For those who have been disappointed, it really isn’t such a big deal. It just feels that way today. Time now to reflect. Don’t make a hasty decision which you might already suspect you will regret.

Even those who have spectacularly exceeded their forecast results should perhaps now have a long, hard think about what direction they want to take. University might be the correct decision for some but not for all, regardless of academic ability.

Specific to this forum, in recent years it was calculated that about 80% of Royal Marines Other Rank Recruits were academically qualified to be Officers.

Bottom line: whatever your exam results the world truly is your lobster.

I believe today's the day the results are out.

What are your plans? Uni first or career now?

As an example, my son (21) is just about to start an MEng, having got himself a BSc first in Computer Science. He'll have about £60k student debt before entering the jobs market and good luck to him.

Had he, for example joined the Armed Forces at 18, he would have earned about £100 - £150k in that same time-frame, depending on level of entry. He would also of gained practical hands-on work experience, world travel, possibly gained a foundation degree (and the possibility of also gaining a BSc funded by the service, whilst working), management skills & a variety of skills for life....

In other words, if you don't get the grades you wanted - think of starting your career now rather than putting it off...
