when answering a question about the rates of pay do the intervewers want it to be exact to the £ or can i say oh between around £16,000 to £27,000 and be ok?

Im Pretty sure they would want it to be an exact sum, Because you could just say £0 - £1000.0000 .. So yeah im pretty sure they will want the exact some, They would expect you to have ready properly through all the booklets they give you etc.. So get revising buddy!..

i'd of thought u would be ok to say that because not all marines are payed the same so u can't say it to the £

you get a rates of pay list with your application form and information booklet
