black beret?

hey i just woundered what the black beret is for? unfortunatly now the death count of ar lads over in afgan has hit 100 the front page of the newspaper was covered in the pictures of the fallen and i noticed some lads had black beret with the royal marine badge on

Are you sure they were Royal Marines? RM recruits wear a black beret with RM capbadge but other then that I don't know.

RM recruits wear a dark (navy) blue beret with a red patch where you mount the cap badge.
It's not black mate.

Guys: The green beret was introduced for the Royal Marine Commandos in 1942, when they took up the commando role. Before then they wore the dark blue berets that you speak of, which are now worn by the recruits in basic training.

I am sure black berets is the 2nd battalion Duke Of lancasters Regiment, what my mate was in and he died so it could be him

Black was worn by the Royal Tank regiment..
as 2 whether that still stands im not sure, but when the marines came to choosing there colour beret that was when the RTR wore black..

Think it's just to show you're crap (recruit),
because you could probably blag you're in a different regiment,
or marines have changed there beret to black or something.

Para's have something similar,
you get your red beret mid training,
but you have a bit of green plastic behind the cap badge,
which gets taken off after P company.

His beret looks green-it just doesn't show up well in the picture

ye hes the one i saw hes got a black beret with what looks 2 me like the royal marine badge on it and it aint a ''training royal marine'' beret because they have a red bit on them

That is just a poor copy of that picture, I have seen the same image elsewhere and the beret is definitely green.

His blues also look black in that picture.

I saw it on the news last night.

It was a band member playing a bugle, with a Black Beret with the Red background on the laure, the same one you get through RT.
