I'm sure many of you - like myself - have slightly chunky thighs and suffer from chronic chafing.

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to avoid this, especially when running outside in cold weather? I wear lycra shorts under my running shorts, but still have to walk like John Wayne every time I go for a run.

If you're sure it's chafing try applying a good dust of talcum powder before your runs. If talcum powder doesn't work then it could be jock itch which is very similar - I had this whilst living in Australia due to the humidity and the work I was doing, treated it within a few days using Lamisil AT 1% Gel which you should be able to find at Tesco or Boots.

Thanks AKB, I'll give the talc a go. Don't think it's anything more than abrasion to be honest, but will bear that in mind.

Whenever I run far I wear lycra without boxers, I haven't chafed since doing this. To point out the obvious make sure the lyra is tight but not suffocating.

As above, try Vaseline if skins don't work!

Another useful usage for Vas? I mountain bike as my main form of phys now, stick a blob on the tips of your ears and smear a thin layer on your cheeks to avoid wind burn and ears which sting like hell.
