If anyone joins any unit at some point in time they will spend time at sea. It's what the Corps does. 42 Cdo provides Maritime Interdiction Ops, as well as providing protection to the RN and RFA ships whilst they are sea, so yes, they will come into contact with the RN.

Embarked forces are usually accommodated in their own mess decks and essentially do their own thing, but are used as a working part of ship when required. Meals are served in the main galley on board where everybody eats.

As for female ratings, they are part of the ship's company, so of course they work alongside each other and whilst there have no doubt been the odd occasion when relationships have occured, they do manage to keep it in their pants for weeks at a time.

47 Cdo provides training and personnel for the sea going assets of the Corps. They are usually LC ratings and possibly a few other SQs. Whether they have GD marines I don't know.

Perhaps if you get yourself a copy of the G&L it will give you a better insight of what happens in other parts of the Corps.

Hello mate. In regards to your interests , it use to be a specific role per coy however 42 are now rotating roles in unit. L, J, K, M are starting to rotate through SFPT, FCT, STTT and joint personnel recovery. So if you are in that unit you will spend most of your time on ships. You will get a fair bit of leave but then be straight back out from my experience. Either as force protection or as a boarding team. There are some limited STTT roles for specialists.

On ship we always mingle with the navy and RFA as there was no choice. We were in the mess withe together. They liked to booze we liked to boozez ect......

As for your last question all i can say is naval regulations do not permit any personal relationships at sea....

Cheers for the messages, had any of you actualy personaly taken part in this role? It is something that in my brain appeals to me however would I be met by a black and white reality of it being perhaps a boring 'guard' job?

To be honest, yes. SFPT, FCT are both quite chilled when out on ship ie. Lots of phys and down time. however you are still on ship and have all the crap that comes with it.....rounds, details, no / limited comms with home and it can be very boring. You may think you will save money however when you get ashore for the first time in weeks that 1000 pound you saved goes over night . still its a good experience and the lads you are with make it.
