I'd like to add my 2 penneth worth, and it is my opinion... be very grateful for where you are and the support and facilities you do have. In SA, the vast majority of the population live from hand to mouth...that includes those in suburbs. Once this hits the informal settlements and squatter camps there will be no stopping it. We have no public health system to speak of, in these areas there is often no running water, or limited access to water, and definitely no civil services available to check on the elderly, frail and vulnerable. Our 'Defence Force' as well as our police services are ill equipped to deal with the sheer volumes and masses of people.

The next 3 weeks in SA are not just about the virus, it will become political and I pray to anyone who will hear me that this does not happen. The tensions here are running high...and we havent even hit lockdown yet.

Apologies for the long post-you are so fortunate to have the social mindset that you do, in that volunteers actually step up to the plate. Here, volunteers are held up, robbed, murdered and raped.

    Be grateful, and stay safe

The solemn BBC TV government health warning about the importance of social distancing and the requirement to avoid mass gathering was followed by the cheerful BBC ident clip featuring sausage dogs at Newcastle. -banghead-

Did your nod manage to get home before the lock down, or is he stuck in the UK for the foreseeable?

For those willing to aid the official research into the spread, containment and trends of COVID-19, there is a government endorsed App for IOS and Android phone users which can be downloaded here: https://covid.joinzoe.com/

You simply enter your basic details once and update your status daily.

"The information you give us is essential to understand COVID-19. We take the trust you've granted us very seriously and have rigorous steps in place to ensure your information is secure. This is why public health and other authorities are working with us. We are also working hard to improve the app based on your feedback. This is a non-profit initiative so please bear with us."

All service personnel and civilians are encouraged to assist, if possible.
