Lance Corporal is still a 'Local Acting Rank' which means you'll lose the stripe upon being drafted out of that unit. The only exception to that are specialisations that require LCpl at a minimum, so Combat Int & MilPol. Unless the Future Commando Force has shaken things up a bit. Happy to be corrected by any specs that know of LCpl req?

Ive heard, but how much from a first year marine to Lance coparal is the pay difference

If I remember correctly band 1 of L/Cpl is the same as Band 6 or 7 for Mne's I think. So if your a 2 year marine yes its a big jump but if your on like band 5/6 anyway its no more of a jump than your annual increase

GMG= grenade machine gun.
GPMG SF= general purpose machine gun sustained fire. It’s the GPMG on a tripod in a gun line role.
And yes as far as I’m aware a scout sniper is just a PW3 sniper.

Scout Sniper is an interesting change in terminology which perhaps better reflects the snipes role.
I think the corps has just fancied the USMC terms for it and have taken it on.

SFCs go through SFC selection. They do the hills at the start of selection but they get longer to complete the marches. Then they go on to do all their comms training. This has been mentioned before, bare in mind this does not make them badged.

How does the role of SFC differ from communications technician? (except from SFC working with SF more obviously)

SFC really does sound an incredible career move, a mate has recently passed the course and recommends it massively after hopefully passing out. The busy operational tempo, huge pay increase, all the extra courses they do, high pass rate for RM candidates and that there is no minimum service to attempt it (I'm told quite a few have done it in their first year out of training) make it a no-brainer.

Yeah maybe summed it up a bit casually there apologies. Won't keep feeding 2nd hand info after this but to clarify the same mate said BAC and pre-hills were both absolutely horrific, so the 'fairly high pass rate' is taking into account only the men that have already dragged themselves through both of those courses with their own huge fail rates by the time they start the actual course.

When thinking about career paths its all well and good to say I'll get on SFC selection as soon as I pass out but surely you'd just be too knackered physically and mentally to attempt an arduous course like that straight out of RT?

Not necessarily but if you rock up to a commando unit straight from training and tell every one you want to do selection you will most Likley just get laughed at.

Bit late to this but Tels Tech, Comms Tech, SFC, RMP, CI all get lance jack on completion of the course.

Funny you say this, I have a vivid memory of a very young lad stood on the chair introducing himself on his first day at 42 after passing out.

"I'm Mne Bloggs and I'm going to join the SBS ASAP."

Many a laugh and many a reef was dished out...

Badged before the end of his first ever draft. Who's laughing now!

I wasn't saying it dosnt happen but the amount of lads in training that say they want to be an ml or sbs when very few even go for selection.
I have been told the rm do make you jump through a few more hoops to get on selection now as the rm are short of people.

Has there ever been a point where there isn’t a shortage of RM? I’m guessing when there’s no conflict it doesn’t help either as it probably deters people from joining because they won’t be in a war zone
