    Passed PRMC
Commandos of the future could be sent into battle from a new class of assault ships under plans being considered by the Naval Service.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson today announced investment in a concept and development phase for the vessels – called littoral strike ships.

It represents part of the Navy’s vision for the future of amphibious warfare, alongside plans for the future of the Royal Marines.

These ships would form the backbone of a littoral strike group, a scalable force made up of different elements of the fleet and the future commando force.

    In simple terms.

We are going to build from scratch, the exact same thing we already have. But it will be contracted out, long and drawn out, over cimplicated and a cash cow for the officers that have shares in the contracted company.
All because we have no real need for it but because we need to jusitify our budget to the Weak, limp wristed Government. So we have to package it up as a brand new idea.
And not learn from any of the mistakes of the last ships.
And let the civvie contractors take the *text deleted* and rape the taxpayer’s purse to line their own pocket.

I swear to god I thought that thing had oars when I first looked at it. You never know with our current batch of politicians.

This is a good thing. 6 months ago, it looked like the RN had all but given up on amphibiosity, now it is investing heavily in new amphibious capabilities. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating and as usual there will be cost and time over-runs but nevertheless anyone looking for a long term career in the RM should be heartened by this.

This seems like a really positive step, looks like that the future commando force model is actually being taken seriously. Hopefully there's more good things to come and the corps will start getting half decent kit.
