Im a dual national American/British and want to join the Royal Marines. Ive lived in the US my whole life but have family over in the UK. From what ive read online i should be able to join but have heard that it may be an issue to get security clearence. Have any other dual nationals had this issue? Also if anyone has met an american in the Royal Marines what was experience like?

Someone might be able to answer your specific question. :)
People are judged on individual merits rather than on their nationality.

There are plenty of Commonwealth personnel: Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, etc., so a lot of diversity.

Also, I understand that a SNCO from the United States Marine Corps is generally on exchange at CTCRM.

Over the years the forum has had a handful of candidates in similar circumstances to yourself.

@The_Chief those that can apply for RM service are as follows: British Citizen, Commonwealth / Irish & Dual Nationals (one of those being British), so yes you can apply - some individuals have issues later one if they require extended vetting - but as you are American and this comes under what is known as "Five Eyes" (5 nations that have a shared security classification UK & USA being two of them) you should be ok in most instances you will come into with the RM unless a very specialist role.

Thanks do you know what kind of roles would require extensive vetting?

It will mainly be those within some higher-level signals roles, SF & intelligence branches, but not something the vast majority have nothing worry about.

Just out of interest, how come you are choosing the RM, and not a US service? There’s some Gucci stuff in the US I would love to get stuck into, when I left the corps I emailed their recruiting to be told I had to be a US citizen, so couldn’t. :(
