CTC have released a first class document (information pack) which will hopefully help those about to attend a PRMC (below)

What may be of particular interest to Parents & Partners is this document contains the latest 32 week Recruit Training programme.

This looks really useful. Is there anything like this for the officer course?

Yep, it's a very useful document - pretty much compulsory reading prior to PRMC.

    Candidates are urged to consider to following information sources;

 Download the Royal Marines ‘Globe and Laurel’App(iStore).

 Source or purchase the most current Navy News (AFCO or WHSmith)

     ‘Follow’ ‘MeetTheMarines’on Twitter

 ‘Like’ ‘PRMC Team’, ‘Royal Marines’ and ‘Royal Marines Recruitment’ on Facebook.

Odd, given that you are told to write yes / no as to whether you used this site at the PRMC itself!

With regard to ‘Factsheet 8’ I do find it strange that there is no mention of the Special Boat Service!

The SBS are part of the Royal Marines. Mention is made of the Special Forces Support Group, even stating that “All RM SFSG personnel must complete a rigorous selection course to gain a place at this unit.”! Yet no mention of the SBS.

Three flags fly at Poole. The Royal Navy Ensign, the Royal Marines and the SBS standards.

    Not impressed.

A glaring omission. As this is a PDF document, presumably there is no reason why the author(s) cannot edit, correct and reissue? Perhaps a mention of this forum could also be added?

Fear not, I'll notify the author & advise the SBS may be nailing his head to a table for the omissions:)

Yes, not to be confused with the typo error on the same page. :)
Proof reading is often the hardest part of creating a document.

To be fair, it's the first time I've seen someone grip this & publish something which aids those aspiring to join - free of charge, too.

The thing about the SF stuff is any officially produced publication making reference to UKSF automatically becomes classified according to Defence Instructions. Believe me, the peripheral administrators of all things SF are extremely zealous - one official social media webpage got a metaphoric spanking for merely mentioning that some trained ranks at a particular unit had undergone selection. I kid you not.

There's loads of unauthorised stuff out there, but the only officially authorised/sanctioned bit is that which is on the RN website, which isn't very much, admittedly.

I'd bet good money that media ops had to jump through hoops to get approval to create an SBS page on the RN website before it was signed-off. A peculiar state of affairs when trying to recruit but not advertise the job :)

There is the 'need to know' and common sense.

The media will print/embellish anything that has the slightest hint of increasing sales if the words 'Special Forces' can be used.
Some books have been released which have described various actions attributed to the SBS , these can be cross referenced with media reports of 'a spokesman for the MOD'. Again 'open source information'.

    As regards advertising.....

DO you fancy a change of career? Feel like becoming an all action hero?
However, sources say a lack of recruits has led to top brass sanctioning an advert in Soldier magazine, a publication widely read in the armed forces community.
An MOD spokesman told the Daily Echo: “The SBS is a tri-service recruiter and this is not the first time we have used the military media to advertise for suitable applicants.”

    http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/ne...at_Service__could_you_be_their_next_recruit_/

A peculiar state of affairs indeed.

I'll certainly make enquiries next week. It'll be interesting to see the outcome. Generally these things are decided by people who aren't actually special forces themselves, but nevertheless enjoy the imagined gravitas of their post.
