Thanks Ninja! If you're applying to be an Officer, would they ask more/different questions to the ones you have posted here?

Hi Gang how are things,

I was wondering about the pronunciation of the names of Units.

45 Commando for example,
Is it pronounced "Forty Five Commando" or is it "Four Five Commando"? Or does it matter?

Just wondering in case I screw that up during the interview.

40 Commando is pronounced 'forty commando'

42, 43 and 45 are pronounced as letters i.e 'four two commando, four five commando' etc.

Thank you, is there any reason for that?

So its the main units are pronounced as numbers and their respective units are pronounced as words?

Sorry not sure what you mean by main and respective units? I'd be surprised if you get asked about any other units aside from 40, 42, 43 and 45 in your interview.

Well what I've learned so far was that there are 1 Assault Group and 3 Commando Brigade and in 3 Commando brigade there are the associated units - 40 Commando, 42 Commando etc.

Or am I wrong?

Thank you, what do you mean by ASRM does that mean Associated?

Oh I think I see what you mean now!

Aside from what I posted above about pronunciations of the fighting units (they are part of 3 Commando Brigade), 539 Assault Squadron is also pronounced as a number i.e 'five three nine assault squadron'. Does that make sense? Maybe I'm not explaining it very well!

ASRMs are the other assault squadrons that are part of 1 Assault Squadron but based on naval ships: 4 (HMS Bulwark), 5 (HMS Albion) and 9 (HMS Ocean).

Sorry I also shouldn't of said 'I'd be surprised if...' I should of said in my interview that I was only asked about 40, 42, 43 and 45.

Ah yes, I think I get it now Thank you.

So basically the numbers are pronounced as words, and the ones that end in "0" like 40 is pronounced as the full number.

Oh right I wouldn't have known there were squadrons based on ships but it makes sense. I'll look into it.

That's good to know, Thank you.

No worries!

Before your interview I'd recommend buying Navy News (I got mine from WHSmith) as they will give you information on where the navy is currently deployed. You can also download the Globe and Laurel on your iphone or android which will also help further your knowledge of units/locations/deployments.

Good luck for your interview!

so I take it these questions are still pretty valid then? I've memorised the battles and dates (save what actually happened in them) the locations of majority of the bases and their names. all vikky winners(save what they won it for).
more studying to do but was debating what I'd actually get asked on as I don't want to study something i wont be asked. two weeks left before prmc.

The questions will be personality driven rather than mandated. They are used as a gauge of motivation.

If you can reel-off all VC winners & their deeds, but don't know where 30 Commando are based or what they do, you can be assured you won't be asked about the VC s.

It's impossible for me to advise the specific questions unfortunately as I don't know myself.

Can anyone help with Q33. What is the function of Commando Logs?
