There are some ranks you could apply for like an officer or somthing. Most of the time they would let you no your ready for a more advanced roll. Im just going what off my mate told me. He's served for two years now and wants to apply to be in the sniper regement.

Time served, professional experience, ability, leadership potential, effective intelligence, moral courage technical knowledge and a "Strong" recommendation from you reporting officer.

In other words you are judged in your performance and ability in relation to your peer group. You must be aware that there are some excellent potential leaders out there already serving, in the queue ahead of you.

After 2 years in the Marines do you get promoted to Corporal or do you have to show all those skills in order to become a corporal?
Reason being if i pass the training and want to specialise as a PTI then i would need to be a corporal.

It is highly unlikely that you would be promoted to corporal after just 2 years. I believe you can apply to be a PTI as a lance corporal (after your 2 years GD) and you would then be promoted to corporal upon successful completion of the course (but only if you are of a high enough standard and ready for the advancement)

As stated, after two to four years, assuming you pass training, you may be in the frame for Lance Corporal if you display all those skills.

You do indeed need to be able to show all those skills & recommends to be considered. Exceptional individuals may be recommended for corporal in the 4 year timescale. Being recommended for PTI and Corporal in less than 4 years, together with actually making selection is rather at the extreme end of exceptional.

If you pass initial PRMC selection & are good enough to complete Recruit Training, you will begin to see the enormity of your future aspirations when you witness the quality of the individuals in the queue ahead of you. Yes, it can be done because otherwise we wouldn't have people doing the job, but don't think it's just a case of biding your time and it will come to you - you have to go out there and get it by proving you are better than anyone else.

How do I go about becoming a General?

Haha!

Read General Sir Mike Jackson's book "Soldier" and that'll give you a vague idea of the competition involved. The military world at the top of the ladder is a suprisingly small one. Everyone knows everyone, there are a very limited amount of high flyers flying high enough to make that grade.

I take it you're not exactly being serious?

become a clerk, then you'll get to corporal quicker, almost gurenteed. then leave and apply for PTI. not the most exciting route but you will get to your end goal faster.
