whats the minimum amount of time you have to do a specialisation for in the marines? are they all 1 year or do they differ? (not including special forces)

I thought specialisations lasted your whole career?

Wouldn't be much point in doing an 8 month Mountain Leader course just so you could be a mountain leader for a year.

I think minimum time for SQ`s is 2 years it will also depend on you commanding officer, you have to be recommended or have permission to change SQ and it depends on if youve been a good boy or not, and also what courses are open but theres like a 3 year waiting list for HW now and its only *text deleted* get worse.

As for units just returned 40 Cdo have just come back, and i think early next year 3 cdo brigade are going to spearhead opp herrick 9 and so i think all fighting units ie 40/42/45 and attached units 59/29 will be going out.

And i bet if you ask to be a chef/clerk then they will ship you off stright away! I wonder if you end up with a trade just to make the numbers work, will you get higher proritey when places on the more intresting specilisations come up?

Its very much like that from what serving mates i know say, its true obviously nobody joins the marines to fight a desk as someone once said,

but
there still very important roles more so than ML/AE/ in a way because without clerks you wont get paid and transfers, and chefs you wont get fed

i think you do get some priority for being pinged for those jobs, you also get a yearly conduct report on youre service record ie poor, satisfactory, good, and vg a bit like a school report which youre commanding officer has to write i think it depends alot on this and places on the courses.
