Hi guys I recently have come across this thread here

    https://www.royalmarines.uk/threads/specialist-qualification-getting-pinged.116953/page-5

and it’s been an eye opener for me, I was under the illusion that after you pass out your only job is a marine and you basically just learn how to fight for war, seems silly me thinking that now.

But can someone explain to me what actually happens after you pass out and what the process is?

    Thanks

Use the search function. All SQs have been covered before.

It’s been covered in detail but here's the basics:

You should spend 12 months as General Duties, before specialising.

If you are lucky you will either remain GD, or get the Specialisation you want. Happy Days.

If unlucky you will be “pinged” (told) you will specialise as 1 of the less popular Specialisations for a period of time, usually 2 years. Then you can apply for a different Specialisation.
