Nice one, well done.

For the uninitiated, can you describe what the course entailed?

Sure thing Ninja. It was pretty much the same as described in the various diaries on here. Essentially:

Saturday: Arrive, briefing, lectures on ironing bedding etc. A few people got a bit overexcited and were up ironing until the small hours.

Sunday: standard 3 mile BFT along with situps and pullups. A few chunders from certain oppos, due to poor quality takeaway the night before. Then into the BST swim test.
After that we learn how to use an underslung grenade launcher. Pretty epic really.

Monday-Thursday : Exercise Baptist Strike up on Woodbury Common. Weather was amazing. The ex was a series of stalks, static nav, observation stances, target target indications and night navs. We got a couple of attempts at them over the exercise, so no dramas there. The night navs were much easier than the ones in training. Likewise, the kit musters every morning were fine too. Basically, this ex is just taking your ability to administer yourself in the field.

Thursday PM- 8 miles CFT back from the field to CTC. We were then introduced to Elsen duty, which is where a few unlucky nods have to empty the field toilets into a sink type thing and use these large sticks to force their oppos' 'deposits' down a metal grill. After that straight into lectures on CBRN and first aid. People were falling asleep all over the place. Sadly no gassing for us, as there was no time to issue and fit everyone with respirators.

Friday: Post field kit inspection and lectures on radios and comms. People got quite into it and there was some great *banter* over the airwaves. There was also a bottom field session where we got thrashed for being civvies etc. - no suprises there. Was good fun and a great intro to bottom field.

Saturday: Sadly no helicopter drills, but instead we had a nice long bottom field session and then some more tactical lectures on patrollimg and all the other cool stuff we get do do now we've finished the first half of training.

Sunday: Intro to grenades then deployment into the field for Ex First Strike via a 6 mile yomp. This was more of a hangout than we were expecting as there was a lot of extra radio kit and night vision goggles that had to be carried too.

Sunday - Wednesday: Ex First Strike. This was mega fun. Radios, night vision, section attacks, recces, withdrawing from contact. All the good stuff. Hardly any sleep, so people were starting to struggle by the end of it. The yomp back to camp was a bit of an effort too.

Thursday: Essentially we drove *slept* several hours on a coach to throw one grenade each. Was a very relaxed day. In the evening a load of us snuck into the RM vs USMC boxing match being held a Lympstone, which was an amazing experience. In particular the drum salute from the band service was incredible.

Friday: Emotional farewells to the training team and the lads from other detachments as well as cleaning the accommodation and trying to do one armed pullups while waiting for the coach.

Overall this was an amazing two weeks. The training team were all legends, morale was high throughout and we learnt a huge amount. They initially had low expectations of what reservists can do and openly admitted that we'd proved them wrong, which was great to hear. One Cpl even went as far as saying we were better than his last nod troop at some of the tests on Ex Baptist Strike and they all said it was a pleasure to work with us.

The dates might be a bit wrong, but that's the general gist of it. There's also a lot of hillarious/ inappropriate content that had to be missed out.....
