They are pulling your leg. Out of curiousity, I wonder what sort of restrictions they have in the RM with the under 18s?

I know you cant be posted on the front lines, but what about when it comes time picking a specilisation?

Edit:- Think Im about to answer my own question here. Since you spend two years as a general duties marine, when that time comes the marine would be 18+ so it wouldnt matter.

it was obviously a load of sh*t then.
oh yeah i know you can't be posted on a front line untill the age of 18, but i'm thinking after the first two years would you specialise in something first and then do a tour of duty or maybe do it the other way around?
i suppose i could ask at my afco and see what they say.

cheers fellas!!

You do kinder garden marine training taught by arnold shwarzenneger, were he will teach you how to punch a pepperoni pizza through a mans face and tear out his spine with your bare hands.

Spot on. The Army put all under 18s in one place for training & refer to U18s as juniors.

I know you are all wise, but that isn't strictly true. There were two 17 year olds in my troop, the rest of us were between 18 and 27. They weren't allowed to drink when we went to Belgium. Needless to say they did though.

Possibly it's just the 16 to 17.5 year olds that train together, can't check with my Army colleagues as I'm not in the AFCO this week. It's a similar situation with those sailors under 17.5 years who old cannot serve on warships at sea, I'd guess the Army is fairly similar with those under 17.5 upon joining.

That would make sense, it was for the royal engineers and by the time they would have finished Basic and then trade training they would have been 18, i guess.
