Hey Stacka, just a quick question for you mate.
Obviously I Want to join the Marines, which i hope to do providing my medical appeal is passed. However whats it like to serve as a Commando in the Rifles mate, do you perform as much as what Marines would? Plus do Army Commandos get the oppotunity to specialise too? apologies for the bombardments mate im just looking at Rifles myself as a possible plan b.

Its pretty much the norm for the Rifles, especially in 1 Rifles. How do you mean preform as much as Commando...if you mean juicy jobs then yeah...The Rifles regiment is the most battle hardened regiment in the British army, the only regiment to have Rifles cap badges in theatre every year....

.....As a Commando you specialise in your unit, but i will stress im not 1 Rifles...but i still got the chance to do AACC, in all fairness it hasn't changed my role at all.

My only advice is do what you think is best, the there is no plan B.

The Rifles recruiting criteria is tougher now than other regiments, plus basic training is also more selective, simply because we don't need men. Fitness and a strive fire greatness is our driving force....but in a laid back Rifleman manner.

hi all, im back and about.

As you know I was on H14.....sadly some time in September (opsec) whilst on a foot patrol in Nahr-e-Saraj district, we got ambushed, and terry Taliban threw a grenade over the wall blowing me up.

In short I got fragged to high heaven. I'm on the mend now, *text deleted**text deleted* loads of pins and skin grafts later I managed to save my left arm and hand. So my friends there is a god

Yep, photographs of injuries aren't too brilliant for recruiting, but in a pub they're good for free beer, etc.

All's good here at present. Facebook (RM) was launched whilst the website was offline, so understandably drew a fair few who would otherwise have used the forum, but we're back on track. Anticipating a rise in site traffic with the new Chis Terrill, Commando documentary launching on Channel 5 tomorrow.

Back to you - what's the longer term plans?

I met Chris in bastion when we were bringing back a naughty naughty boy we'd detained. and Ross Kemp, I know which one id trust with me and this one isn't a cockney.

Long term, god knows...im still fighting fitness. Moved to the beautiful Wiltshire so spending most my free time Hunting and Stalking when I have my time. I'm down graded for another 6 months, yet *text deleted* just been cracking on all though some days the injuries get the better of me.

Maybe look at Juniors, Seniors when im fit, live happily ever after etc.

Oh im getting married end of the year (AGAIN!)

Good to hear the injury shouldn't be a career stopper.

Good luck getting married & moving forward.
