Documents leaked to media reveal an unexpected consequence of BREXIT confusion.

An EU directive within the Lisbon Treaty has led to secret advanced planning to ensure that the UK complies with its obligations to Joint Forces Europe even though the UK did not leave the EU on 29 March 2019.

Changes particularly affect the Royal Marines which is currently a part of the Royal Navy. Although a final decision has not yet been signed off it is believed that the Royal Marines will transition into Joint Forces Europe, be re-roled as a peace keeping force, and be renamed as Marines Kommando Euro.

Credible sources have expressed doubt about whether the new Marines Kommando Euro force will be armed with conventional weapons. “The days of rifles and bombs are over. Modern enemies will be dominated and overwhelmed by highly trained ‘influencers’ within Marines Kommandos Euro” said a defence analyst yesterday.

A further controversial change will see the iconic commando green beret replaced with an orange beret. The change is thought to have been strongly promoted by the Dutch to reflect that nation's heritage. A senior spokesman said: “Naturally we expect some resistance from the ‘old and bold’ but we are confident that in time the coveted orange beret will also become iconic.

The change of beret colour to orange is also believed to be a step towards projecting a more caring and inclusive image than that of the green beret which many found to be intimidating.

A EU Defence spokesperson, Una Avrilla said: “The modern battlefield has changed and we must change with it. Threats to European security can only be challenged if we adjust our strategy to meet those threats.

At least Orange matches my blue eyes better than Green, I suppose.

Surprised the EU can still dictate UK military doctrine.

A similar format was tried in the past with NATO. I can remember being sent to Cyprus as part of the peace keeping force after the Turkish invasion and being told we had to replace our green lids with the NATO light blue. It went down like a lead balloon, with lots of grumbling, but we had to comply. :(

Speculation on my part but I guess that the re-roling might be linked to border security as this is a major flaw in UK and European security.

Vaguely recall a French defence minister speaking about this issue on BBC World Service Radio last week. She was dismissive about the matter of beret colour, labelling it as "trivia".

I wish it were an April fools joke, we were briefed by the CGRM that big changes were inbound.

This is no doubt why the Corps' have just spent the last 3 months working with several EU nations in Norway redefining standard operating procedures.

Some fear change; others embrace it. It's certainly a challenge.
The notion of an unarmed Corps can only lead to the development of new tactics and skills.

Although 1 unit will always be on a high readiness state I believe. Similar to SFSG I have heard.

LA FOP ROIL... Old european/scandinavian language, mildy translates to "The fighting Royals"

We will lose the green beret but keep the corps alive in name at least.
