You do know essence is used as a term for--good looking ---not the best , but i,m sure the DL,s will be well chuffed..but on that basis the PTI,s -vomit- consider themselves the most "essence" branch..unless you are  boyfriend hunting then i retract my statement (and nothing wrong with that either by the way..:D

Well I'm glad @The guide cleared up what 'essence' means, I was like 'eh?'!

I've looked at signals quite a lot as I have previously looked at joining the Royal Signals (but luckily saw sense!)

Ultimately I'd really like to go Aircrewman but I think it's unlikely I'll be able to start flying training by my 30th birthday.

Thinking on it essence is also used to describe "great" on occasion..as in just had essence scran.!!..but generally used to describe looks of some sought

Not necessarily, i believe it's used widely by a lot of civilians (civvys ;)). It could originally be though!

Edit - looks like it was originally used by firemen, police and military. My bad!;-)

For me DL is the dream. There is a certain Cpl that inspired me everyone should have inspiration in my eyes everyone should have a hero DL or ML it doesn't matter but isn't the final goal everyone's aim?

I quite liked the idea of being a DL they have a major input in shaping the future marines , they dont "live" in the field..and i actually enjoy drill..done well after being taught by a good DL it looks awesome..they have some very random but good drafts (training units for the RN and so on) and who did not brick themselves when it front of the First Drill , And lets be honest to WO PW , WO SA and so on do not have quite the same effect .!!

And they get to crack loads of funnies with the recruits..i was aiming to get anybody taller than me with a funny on parade...(and i,m 5 ,5.!:D)

My only aim if I ever managed to pass out was to one day drive the biff wagon. Who hasn't been on a run or a long march and looked at the guy behind driving the biff wagon and wished they could be that guy. I don't know what path you need to take to do that, but that's who I wanted to be.

Or was that just my low aims in life :(

Is it a pre-requisite of being a DL that you are funny,My lad said his first DL at CTC was the funniest man he'd ever met,(sure you know who I mean),saying that though his last one was just a Psyco *text deleted**text deleted**text deleted*D (his words)

You would think it is they way they go on.!!..some of course are funny , but very much tried and tested one liners are used , with guys putting their own spin on them , it,s certainly a branch that lends itself to being able to pull out funnies , drill can be soul destroying if you not up for it that day..but many guys actually don,t mind it..as it,s a fairly simple evolution...just do what you are instructed to do smartly..how simple can it get..tier interaction with guys in all differing stages of training & careers helps..but it,s a tough question...Are DL,s the funniest branch in the Corps ??
