Mt Kinabalu

Right lads,

I'm climbing Mt Kinabalu in Borneo in November with British Military Fitness and I need a hell of a lot of kit. Problem is that I haven't been in the UK for long and I cetainly haven't become aquainted with the hiking gear available here.

I need a daypack that has a capacity of at least 45 litres. It needs to be very durable and waterproof. Any people here in the know? Which brand names/shops are worth looking at? I figure that I'm willing to invest in a good one so I can train in it for Marines as well.

I'll also need all sorts of other equipment. What's the best place for outdoor stuff in this country?

Cheers!

Hey mate.

Check some of the links out in the yomp section, Theres plenty of links in there for bits of kit people are considering buying for the yomp, Most of the bergans in there are about 65 Litres etc.. So its worth having a look!

If you *text deleted* go into a shop and talk to someone then my recommendation is Blacks or Field and Trek. Also - and people may laugh - but Millets do a lot of decent stuff and it's a fairly reasonable price.

Field and Trek - http://www.fieldandtrek.com

Blacks - http://www.blacks.co.uk

Millets - http://www.millets.co.uk

Also - when you're getting boots, get some with Vibram soles - I've got some Gore-Tex Karrimor boots from when I went to the Pyrenees hill-walking with the cadets and they're amazingly comfy.

In terms of decent brands - I would say: Karrimor, The North Face, Berghaus, Merrell and Eurohike(for sleeping bags)

My 2 cents at any rate.
