A "dit" is a rambling story that bores the balls off of people who have the misfortune to read it and makes no sense whatsoever, except to the person who wrote it. -banghead--banghead--banghead-

Is this a possibility @GreyWing ? 1250 Characters? That's roughly the size of PoS's last post. Maybe less?

Gen is genuine unless placed within brackets which makes it un-gen.

"This range package is going to be hoofing (gen)"

I haven't got a hat but being a bit of an amateur rocket surgeon I'll have a go at your question.

1 up and 2 up were given in the context of orders and how they were passed along the CoC. Passed from the highest, the CO, to the lowest, the Marine. Passed down.

I suspect that 1 up, for a Marine, would be a Corporal and for the OC, the CO. etc. 1 link of the chain, above.

2 up, I'm guessing, follows a similar logic.

Bang on logic. Except it's usually used from the officers not Marine level.

@PoS reference your arc of fire comment, it's not for you to work on. It's taught to you as and when it is needed. It's a simple concept once you get the basic idea. But you need to be worrying about passing the PJFT first. That's like worrying about which way the knight moves in chess, when you haven't even mastered opening the box.
But in general yes, the idea of holding a fire team/section/syndicate/troop/platoon/ phalanx in reserve could be said to be the same.

And I echo it again. Stuff having 2 officers. That's the stripeys job to keep him in check. The last thing he needs is another officer sprog following him around. The troop boss is still learning himself. Troop Boss is a basic and first post for officers.

They have much more pressing engagements with the caviar dish, the mess, and the local chinos outlet to be held in the lowly troop boss role for their whole career.

True, my physic leaves much to be desired, but I'd still like to have a semblance of the theory prior, just as I need to be able to open the box, I need to know what the box looks like to find it and work on opening it, yes? :P An apt analogy *text deleted*, and your point stands, I will be working on my body when I have more, inclination, but I do have several years still, and to be fair, I'm not joining the RMC so I don't need to be hard as a nail, which I'm sure for most would take at least a year, and for me a decade, :P

How does the second section work to support the first? I assume it would be split into fire-teams, and placed on the flanks to provide support where there is not sufficient elevation, yes?

Thank you for your fine answers.

I've given you more information than I think you need - so for the rest you'll have to apply research and/or find out when you get to whatever staff college you find yourself at ;)
