Always a delicate subject, but few realise that not only can debts prevent security clearance if unresolved CCJs, skipped payments & default notices are issued and unaddressed...but they can also result in discharge from the Naval Service.

Lenders are particularly keen to loan money to Armed Forces personnel as they know you are on a pretty much guaranteed income.

Some Recruits and indeed trained ranks can easily borrow sums of money, far in excess of their ability to repay - particularly credit cards and Payday Loans.

If you skip payments, the interest soars to exorbitant levels, as do the penalty fees. It is not uncommon for individuals to end up in debts amounting to more than double the sum borrowed. When this happens, consolidation loans & credit cards keep tipping the balance against them and once the service becomes involved you can be pretty sure the debt will increase, even after discharge for financial irresponsibility.

Take charge of your money, pay heed to the free financial advice offered during training and NEVER run away from your debts because it can and does cost people their jobs.
