Place to stay ?

Hey mates, just looking to see if anyone knows of a good place to stay for when I come over. I don't really know anyone in the UK, but Im going to need a place to stay for about a month while I do my medical, and PRMC. I was thinking maybe hostels / B&B, but they are quite expensive, especially with my Canadian currency. Anyone have any ideas ?

you could try youth hostels they tend to be a bit cheaper. if you stayed in exeter it'd be closest to lympstone as well (it's the nearest city- about 7 miles away)

Depends on where you want to stay really, best option would to be to get a job while you are waiting to help supplement your money you have saved from home. There is no guarantee it will take only a month to get medical and PRMC done as there could be problems at any stage with your application.

They are doing my security clearance at the moment. They said 3 - 6 months. I was checking B&B's in and around exmouth as it was, cost was around $50 - 60 Canadian a night, which is kinda steep to pay for a month.

yeah, but you can usually arrange a cheaper rate if you're staying for longer periods. try and go off season as well if possible

Yea, I'll have to see, considering that does not even include my food.... well I guess it includes breakfast :-P. See how much money I have saved up by then I guess.

Take a look at easyroommate.com, search for a room on a short term basis. You don't want to stay in a B&B for a month!
You will also save yourself a fortune renting a room and will have some people to socialise with. I would look to rent somewhere where you will have excellent access to training facilities.

Im a 26 year old Computer Engineer for Apple Computers, what else do you want to know ;-). Thanks for the thought mate. I was suppose to stay with my friend, an ex Royal Marine, he ended up leaving after 6 years, and started doing private contracts in Baghdad. His contracts have ended, and decided to get back into the Royals, and they are sending him out to Afghan for 6 months in October. Kinda threw a wrench in my plans as you can see.

have you thought about renting a flat or something. there are some places that do short term lets on a rolling contract of about a month at a time.... then perhaps you could get a job (even if its just part time) to suppliment your savings...

I honestly did not ask, Im not that forward I guess. If he would of wanted me to say stay there while he was away, I assume he would of offered. I assume renting a unit for a month would be ideal, just not sure if it's possible. I've been looking around at different sites seeing what's the best deal.

have you tried ringing up estate agents and letting agents which are besed in the area your looking to stay? they may be able to positivly deal with your needs.

have you tried searching craigslist uk for roomshares? it's not that cheap but then again it's not that bad. (especially by Vancouver standards)

go on people just think you could have a free training partner for a month and how good would it look on your application and plus! he has a canadian accent take him round the clubs, your very own bird magnet. And i bet if your really nice he would make your breakfast too!:saythat:

have you thought about enrolling in a collage or something? my mate does a hour a week learning maths and gets to apply for student accomadation at ?60 a week its the only way he can afford to rent, or he would be begging pennies on the street and living in doorways. Im not sure if they do courses that short but worth a look?

I found a place to live for quite cheap via this site. You can create a profile for free and place yourself up as someone looking fr a room.... could find some places as low as ?25 per week.

A piece of advice for you mate, if you do come over to the UK and you are relying on getting a job to support yourself while you are here, I would say that is a very bad idea, as I have been looking for ANY work for over 6 months and I still have not suceeded.
