Not sure why this is so popular, given that the PRMC, once passed, is valid for up to 12 months & every man & his dog seems to want to be get loaded onto the last course of the term, so it's often over-subscribed. This also happens every year with POCs & AIBs for Officer candidates too, for some reason.

Once passed, you can stipulate you are unavailable to commence recruit training until the first entry into recruit training after a nominated date.

Generally the last PRMC is the week before CTC breaks for summer leave...but the first available PRMC AFTER a leave period is usually backed-up by around 6 to 8 weeks. Likewise the first recruit troop commencing after a leave period is often filled several months ahead.

My tip, is take PRMC as soon as you are ready rather than target the last, or first before/after a leave period. Appreciate people like a target to train towards, but it's better to target a couple of weeks before or after the leave breaks as you are more likely to get it.

It just gives me that bit more time to get some extra phys done, I wouldn’t mind early September time but with the wife expecting, could be a bit of a risky play

If it's your first child for both of you, you are probably best off waiting a few months AFTER the baby is due, before commencing recruit training to be certain routines are established and your Wife is happy coping in your absence... and you still want to join. Priorities can change significantly.

In fact, even if it's not the first child, both your Wife & yourself are best off waiting until after the baby arrives to make sure all's OK at home.

There's usually one recruit troop a year in most units but sometimes two. You can still start holding troop.
