Hello. Last year I failed my medical because I had a small patch of eczema develop on my leg after falling into stinging nettles while wearing shorts. I asked to retake my medical after it had expired a month ago, which they have granted. I turn 32 in March and still have the potential to join the regular force. My careers advisor has mentioned considering the reserve force instead. At first I was adamant about wanting to join the regular force, but as I am nearing the cutoff age I am starting to see his advice as the more sensible point of view for someone who wants to get involved in the RM, as any injury in training or failure during the intake tests would most likely be game over for me.
I wanted to get through the training, 2 years GD and then hopefully become a CT or Teles tech. I really knew what I wanted to do and achieve in the long run.
The question is could I still do that in the reserves? I would have a commitment to becoming a full time reservist, getting deployed and in the longer term specialising in a technical trade. Is this the best way of making this happen for someone my age?

Regards

Short answer no.

You won’t be able to be a CT or Telestech as a reservist. Each RMR unit has it’s own SQ.
it costs a lot of money to train, too much for a reservist. Plus both require a DSS ping if I remember correctly.

There is a chance to get Fulltime contracts, but not as often as you used too.

The RMR thing being better for age. Etc, is just a sales pitch. RMR is only decent if your ex Regular, student or self employed.

At least if you go regular you have 32weeks, medical facilities, and you get it done, rather than weekends stretched out over a year.

Isn't TelsTech like a 13month course?

No way would they let a reservist feather his nest with a course like that; with virtually no way of guaranteeing a return of service.
