Hi guys me again, (just trying to get an idea with what I'm doing) what's the likelihood of going to RM Poole without being a clerk or driver? Just wondering.

The following SQs have drafts at Poole: SFC, LC (SMG), Armourer, PTI, ML, Stores Accountant, Combat Int, HW Mortar, Metal smith, Comms Tech. to name a few.

To be certain of a draft to Poole there is of course the ‘Obvious’!

I quite fancied the SFBO but I imagine you'd have to do the LC first at 1st Assault but then if most people upon passing out are posted within 3 commando how do they get there?

To go SMG you need to do a stint as an LC3 for a year or so. The branch use to be quite small some 10 years ago however now its quite a bit bigger but is still competitive to get into. You will spend your time as an LC3 at initially at RM Tamar. Profs of going SFBO? You get Jump wings, do a SERE course, and just wear a polo shirt and shorts to work all day.

Oh so you do an SQ and then go from there? Are the SQ's themselves competitive?

Yeh you need an SQ. No GD billets that I'm aware of.
It depends on the SQ. And if you do get an SQ that doesn't mean you will be guaranteed to get to go to Poole.

As said before the best way is to go the SC route....That said, the irony is that being an SC means you probably wont be spending to much time down Poole.o_O

I can live with that. I keep getting told LC is very hard to get into? Can anybody confirm this?

When it comes down to ‘manning levels’, then different SQ’s may be “hard to get into”!:)

As regards the physical and mental side. You will have completed and passed RT well before you are expected to attempt any SQ. o_O:)

Getting into the Royal Marines is “hard to get into”!!

The SC course is longer and more physical and mental demanding than Recruit Training.
Being a masochist is an advantage.
