Unless it’s a change of policy, I think it was just a line to get you in the door.

A lot of people qualify for payment to the unit.
    Its nothing special.

Don’t fall for the usual RMR script, “best of both worlds” rubbish. They are hanging out for recruitment as much as the regulars.

RMR only suits certain personalities, and people in certain situations.

I'd be inclined to double check that - which AFCO told you that you can transfer to reserves to regulars as a trained rank? I'll investigate further.

That's not how I understand it at present unless it has very recently reverted.

Yeah, that's the first I've heard of this too. Are you sure you understood him correctly?

I'm sure, I mean it would be a little weird if you got your green beret and wanted to transfer over and had to hand it back in to start training again from the beginning

That's precisely the drill at present. It was as a result of skill-fade/currency and the same thing happened with the UKSF(R) tasking roles after a few operational 'hiccups'.

Appreciate it may seem odd, but although RMR trained ranks can and do deploy operationally with a regular service unit, if they wish to transfer into the regular service, they are currently required to undergo Recruit Training from scratch - likewise Young Officers who undergo RMR training prior to joining as an RMYO.

My CO told me that once I pass out in the reserves I could transfer to the regulars also..
however, currently I am in the RMR as a recruit that has just passed the regular version of the PRMC I havnt start training towards my lid yet as I have only attended one evening. My original plan was to join the regulars, I was supposed to start RT Monday just gone (21st jan) but I decided against it for family related reasons. I have since realised and come to terms with the fact that I really want to join regulars. Is that an option open to me? Can anyone shed some light on this matter

    Much appreciated

    He’s wrong.

If you want to go Regulars, speak to your AFCO and start the application, if you passed a regular PRMC it may still be indate. If not you might have to do it again.

Only way you can go Regulars from RMR is go back to day 1 week1, or be upgraded for the mobilisations, or a fulltime contract but you will always end up being downgraded back to RMR after your mobilisation or contract has finished.

Had a chat with the RMR Permanent Staff Instructors yesterday on a different issue but a couple of things came to light:

RMR applicants will in future undertake their PRMC(R) at CTC - not sure yet whether a pass will be equally valid for regulars, but suspect that may become the case to permit transfer between RM & RMR recruits. We'll wait out to hear.

There ARE RMR trained ranks who have successfully transferred seamlessly as a trained rank into the regular service but...they are on a case by case basis and depend on currency, time served, rank, specialisation, service job appraisal reports & operational experience. In other words a newly qualified GD RMR Other Rank with no experience is unlikely to make the transition without undergoing RM Recruit Training from scratch.

As far as I am aware, RMR Scotland run their own PRMC(R) in Scotland at their HQ.
