I just found this thread over at Rum Ration!

This obvious troll from the RAF Regiment is expressing his feeling that the RM are lagging behind and are now considered bog standard infantry! And he mentions how the RAF regiment are earning distinctions in Afghanistan. The cheek of it! Some of the replies are quite good though.

This is NOT repeat NOT an attempt to get a bite, just some thoughts to be thrown into the arena!

I am a member of the RAF Regiment and I think it is fair to say that over the past 60 years we have been very much the poor relation of the Big Three. I am convinced, however, that things are starting to change rapidly and with respect, if you in the RM can't see it too you must be pretty blind to the attitudes of the wider infantry world.

Due to a number of factors, I think the RM (with the exception of a few specialised units) are now seen as quite 'bog-standard' skills wise, thnaks to the poor preformance in Afghanistan commented on by the USMC, due to the HMS Cornwall debacle and due to the consistent failure of the RM to measure up in the SFSG where the paras are now requesting RAF Regiment troops in preferance to the RM.

The RAF has gained significant combat experience in Afghanistan and Iraq and I'm afraid that the RM have lagged behind and the cracks are beginning to show. It would be a tragedy if the old commando myth die out so come on lads - buck up!

I am a big fan of the RM and we are all in this together but the fact is that the age of the marine appears to be closing whilst the rise of the rock ape is just getting started.

Still, respect to you ALL.

Think its the fact that they are in a place where they cannot show their skills. I think it boils down to jealousy.

What a *text deleted**text deleted**, whats the point in even posting something like that.

All regiments have shown outstanding gallantry in all aspects of the Iraq and Afghan war...why try to figure out who's 'the best' when all soldiers lay their life on the line for Queen and country?

And anyway, the RM's reputation speaks for itself...it wouldn't be there if they hadn't have earned it....

Jealousy springs to mind?

It is his opinion and while I would disagree with his statements there is some truth in it as traditionally Commandos are a strategic force and not really meant to be used as a conventional force (likewise with the Para's really).

I think he lacks the understanding of what a marine commando can actually do, in Afghansitan the Army regulars,Para's,Raf and Royal Marines (both commando and bandy) could be very much on par with combat experience whilst being used as conventional forces...but if all support was lost (no helicopters, artillery etc) the Marine Commandos and Paratroopers would upstage any other Soldier in the British/Coalition forces.

Just finished reading a book on the Falklands and it truly shows what the difference in training does, Marine Commandos & Paras ,had little food, water, clothing, ammunition (at times) or transport and just got on with the job where as the conventional troops of the Welsh and Scots guard had difficulty moving across the land scape and dealing with lack of support and by the quotes from the commanders of the forces they were a shamble at times (still did dam fine job mind you)

As for the USMC comment, I don't know entirely where that would come from, Royal Marine Officers do exercises with the USMC and from books i have read there have been many instances where USMC and Royals have served and trained together. Along with marines i have spoken to they all respect most of the USMC and say they regard the Royals are the best there is.

that bloke can say what he likes, as anyone can sat behind a keyboard. it's amazing what people can say when they are just sat on a keyboard without facing anyone. he wouldnt have the nuts to say it to a Royal Marine's face now would he.

I wouldnt give that bloke the time of day to argue about what he has said because he clearly didnt think before he posted on that website.

anyway we dont need to argue, the corps reputation speaks for itself.

Oh and the RAF regiment is famous worldwide for being......security guards with assault rifles.

get a life. if the usmc ever said that about the royal marines its because they are on ACID. The royals send there snipers and pti's and there PW instructors over there to teach the yanks how not to blow them sevles up.

And i have been told by current serving Warrant officers and Sargents that the USMC all tho they are good Blokes are lagging behind 50yrs in comparison with the Royals.

Oh and i wonder who terry taliban would be be shtting his pance knowing who was going to attack him. The ROYAL MARINES COMMANDOS or the ice cream boys.

What a richard cranium.

4 Tests separate the men from the boys. lets see him try them

ROYAL MARINES COMMANDoS
ITS A STATE OF MIND

PS does anyone know any ninjas we can send round there to F him up(that would be Royal Marines Ninja COMMANDOS):cheesy:

Especially when he mentioned the 'Big three'. The RM, The RAF Reg and the Paras!

They should send the ACF over there to upstage the cnuts!

not really sure that's funny. ignoring that apparent disrespect (though i think it's probably a case of a post not written down quite right)... i think the death rise is a reflection of the fact that things are getting tougher in afghanistan. hence why ideally we need to get out of iraq as soon as possible
