So I only started running 1.5 milers on Thursday and now on Tuesday morning I've just chopped a whole minute off. It's not easy it takes hard work but it can and will be done you just need to find that thing that drives you on when you can't get a rhythm going with your breaths or your legs feel like jelly.

I do a run in the morning, 1.5 miles then later at night I do a circuit like the one on the marines poster. Some mornings I'll change to do hill sprints or a long slow run to get endurance but yeah it's really simple and very effective for me.

You should start running 3 milers, no point practicing 1.5 milers when the target is 3 miles. And you should get some practice on the dreadmill as that's your first physical hurdle into the marines. I'm a lot slower on a treadmill than I am on a road which is probably the same for most - make sure you can manage the distance before you start cutting your speed.

And tip: Don't blame the hill :)

That's an improvement of course but that suggests to me that you had a poor first attempt. I'm sceptical of an improvement that large in such a small amount of time. A couple more weeks of consistent results on a treadmill doing your BFT will provide you with much better statistics mate. However from what I have read, you dont have that many weeks to find those results!

    Good luck mate

Trust me yesterday's run was the same as today's I didn't go into it feeling any different in fact I felt crap getting up today than yesterday I was raring to go and when I got to the bottom of the hill i almost always stop for 3-5 secs because it takes it right out you but instead I knew if I wanted a quicker time I was going to need to push through that barrier that was holding me back and I did and chopped a clean minute off and I'm over the moon

Dunno about anyone else but takes me that far to warm up! Start adding distance, doing 1.5m a time is no good! You want to get to a point where 8 miles in an hour is comfortable. Congrats on the improvement though.

What’s with all the negative comments on here the blokes just started his training,

Firstly well done for getting out the door and running that’s the hardest part, when I first started I couldn’t even complete 1.5 miles keep consistent with your running don’t up your mileage to fast and get plenty of rest/ recovery days, follow some of the advice you find on here and you will do fine with that attitude, you won’t be knocking minutes off every time obviously but always be improving consistency is key here mate, all the best

Just keep consistent, and make sure you’re increasing the distance or speed ever so slightly week in and week out. I started running seriously again since new year after 3 years not running in preparation for re-applying and I’ve been consistent throughout smashing mocks every other day and I’m almost PJFT fit already. Keep chipping away, it will come.
