Just out of interest, can members of the Royal Marines Band Service apply to join the SBS? Has this ever happened? If so, has anyone been successful? It says any member of UK forces can apply to join

You'd have to do military courses to brush up on green skills similar to that that RN or non infantry ranks would have to do I imagine.

Yea, non infantry type branch’s will need to have a sponsoring unit, usually from the Navy it means achieving AACC before being considered.
Or with army support ranks they have to pass P Company.

This is only what I heard though, I don’t know anyone from a non-infantry type background who went for UKSF.

You most likely will be too busy to even prep for I in the rmbs. They are flat out.
Surely it would depend if someone applied or showed interest and was a good egg and had good SJARs and known to be good in the field, allowances could be made?
I remember lads being given leniency for training for selection.

Is completion of Combat Infantryman's Course the first step for a Regular, non-Infantry rank (dentist, bandie, lawyer, etc.) towards UKSF selection?

I’d imagine so. From what I’ve heard they need to have decent SJARs and have some real promise. Before passing AACC or P Company to get a sponsoring unit. As a way of showing and proving infantry type skills and aptitude.
I’m just going by second hand dits and what I’ve been told, so more than happy to be corrected by anyone that knows the gen.

I don't have a definitive answer but I recall completion of CIC as being a required stepping stone for personnel who might only have acquired very basic green skills before they started their specialist Phase Two training. Someone here might know more.
