I’ve seen the wardroom proceed ashore in worse rigs though.

SBS(R) is based in the South of England but recruits nationwide.

Successful candidates will need to display a high degree of commitment and fitness as the majority of the selection process is conducted to regular standard alongside the regular component.

Enquiries are by email only, ideally through your Chain of Command.

The DIN on MODNET provides more detail, this can only be viewed via MODNET.

If deemed suitable, applicants will be sent joining instructions for a five-day SBS Briefing Course conducted to a regular standard. The course is designed to assess whether you have the aptitude, physical ability and stamina to pass UKSF Selection.

    Summary:

    • Must be a serving member of UK reserve Forces OR ex regular no more than six years
    • Nationwide recruitment
    • High physical fitness entry standards
    • A high degree of commitment required
    • Opportunity to serve overseas alongside regular counterpart

1 step at a time fella. The reserves aren’t a back door or an easier route of doing things.

If you are interested in Regulars, then join the Regulars first and learn the basics.

While a small percentage of very driven and motivated individuals have joined SF reserves, it’s safe to assume all here on the forum would encourage joining a “normal” reserve/regular branch first.

    Baby steps mate.

Thanks “fella“ but I wasn’t looking for a back door route! You haven’t actually answered my question but thanks all the same

Like the rest of the reserve forces SBS (R) offer the opportunity for its ranks to apply for FTRS positions.

The types of Commitment under which a member of the Reserve Forces may undertake a period of FTRS are:

    Full Commitment

Fulfilling a similar range of duties and deployment liability as a Regular Service person with generally the same pay and allowances package

    Limited Commitment

Fulfilling a full range of duties generally in one location, but with a liability for compulsory detachment for up to 35 days in the UK or overseas in any one year, with no single detachment lasting in excess of 21 days.

Pay is less 9% X-factor and no allowance package.

    Home Commitment

Fulfilling a limited range of duties in a restricted location; compulsory detachments are to be confined to training periods and other limited duties specified in the individual's FTRS Commitment.

Pay is less 14% X-factor and no allowance package.

    Eligibility

Any member of the the SBS (R) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS. There are certain in house qualifications that must be obtained prior to application.

Lads I was just wondering what people's opinions were on the SBS (R)? I was wondering whether SBS reserves get tarred with that same brush that other reserves do, even though their selection is rigorous and based on UKSF selection .

Based on people's experiences of working with/meeting these people, are they a decent bunch of lads?

Speaking for the ones I have come across I have found them to be both committed and professional.

Ive never heard anyone tarnish Special forces Reservists of SBS SAS SRR and even the Signals. No one would really know if you were in the SBSR anyway so it wouldnt/shouldnt matter.

I can see why you feel like this as Army reserve get grief but its a different ball game here.

Certainly SF and its members are always highly regarded within military circles, but the mythology that seems be pedalled by civilians is all a bit silly.

Sorry to disappoint but any SF guys I’ve crossed paths with have been, well......... normal.

    Have to disagree here.

One of the SB guys made me the best cup of tea I’ve had in my life in the church.
