I would very much like to serve with the special services, think if it is something you want then you should definetly strive for it!

SBS would be very far in the future. First you need to become SAS. After that you take the underwater course, which promotes you to the SBS. Your looking at over a year of rigorous training.

the SBS an SAS are 2 completly different things, the SAS is the special force of the army and the SBS is the special force of the navy

Yes, they both do the same selection, then after the parachuting test the SAS candidates get badged, while guess what, the SBS candidates get more selection. Goes to show the SBS is underrated (effectively the underdog), they have more selection and training to get through and the SAS gets all the praise and publicity.

I personally believe the SAS is better. The Special Air Service (SAS) has a much higher public profile in the UK, mostly due to several operations taking place in the public arena.

They are now part of the same organisation (UKSF) and are often sent on joint missions together. The main difference between them remains in their separate specialties in the counter terrorism role. Some speculate that an eventual merger of the SAS & SBS is inevitable.

Good read: http://www.specialboatservice.co.uk/special-air-service.html

The reason why Marines think SBS is better is because that's where most of them go in to.

Its definately one of my aims in the long term after i've done a few tours of duty and hopefully survived. But lets pass PRMC first people!

But i don't know if the SBS are used as much on operations these days (more anti-terror), if i'm right about that then i'd rather be a RM and see more action than be on standby.

I was looking at the Special Boat Service Officer specialisation (in the officer section of the magazine) the short description is enough to get me going!

If i was to pass my YO training, i would certainly look into it and give it a go! if not that then ML.

But lads, i know its great looking into specialisations and that sort of thing but we still need to put in the hard yards first and get through our PRMC, POC or even the RT or YO!

anyway ML of SBS for me! *text deleted*

I'm sure most of the lads on here have thought about wanting to be SF one day wich is great I've thought about it and the intesive training I would need to do to get there, no harm in thinking about it and dreaming about it but obviously for now people need to not look at SF as a goal, but passing out of RT as a goal wich is tough enough and exciting

just because they are famous does not make them better, the sbs might have done alot more than them in the UK but did it discreetly....the SAS hate the fact that they are well known, because of the iranian embassy seige.

And I never said that did.. Also, just because they did it discreetly does not make them better.

They are both part of the United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF) and often work together -- they are both equally as good as each other, just with different jobs. :)
