Can i ask, what kind of selection is required to join this group and does length of service matter?

Once in do you train with your unit, and deply with sfsg when needed?

Having asked just this very question today at CTC, the answer is that selection is very similar to frontline SF selection, at a slightly lower threshold of acceptance.

Bear in mind most routine tasking for SFSG is as suggested on the tin & is seldom frontline glamour/headlines news.

An interseting few statistics:

RM Trained Strength: Around 6,000 (+/- 100)

Contribution to UKSF: Around 43%

Army trained strength: Around 100,000

Contribution to UKSF: Around 57%

Be interesting to find out how many of that 57% come from the paras however and how many in number roughly they stand.

Those stats are ace. Just goes to show the world of difference between the Army and the Royal Marines.

I've always seen the Army as a careers choice, and the Royals as a lifestyle choice. Anyone agree or disagree with that?

The Royal Marines is the only choice!
