    Hi Everyone,

The AIB has very recently replaced the 1.5 mile run with a 3 mile speed march. Surely if a candidate can pass the 1.5 mile run in the allotted time, then they'll easily pass a 3 mile speed march as well. Any thoughts on why this change may have been implemented?

@TangoWhisky , This change is down to Sickle Cell traits, The Army had incidents where candidates undertaking "maximal" physical training required serious medical attention. The MOD looked at the issue with data from the US forces, Candidates from other non-white ethnic origins are/or can be pre-disposed to the issue if they carry sickle cell traits which is a malformation of the white blood cells. So to reduce the risk overall and make testing across the board the same the MOD have introduced a number of changes so initial stages of PT are not maximal, and as AIB persons are not in training this is one of the areas affected, once pass a certain stage within actual training phys becomes maximal as they will have acquired a definitive baseline to do so.

    Passed AIB
Passed AIB this month and the fitness test is exactly 3 miles, but done as intervals of 30-60s running and then 1-2 min walking. It’s unlikely you’ll break much of a sweat.

Very understandable reason for it’s implementation though
