Just my opinion Ty but I wouldn't get any "overly warry" tattoos like that before you get in, it just looks a bit a....whats the word I'm looking for?....over the top, I think, they'd take a look at a guy walking in ith a skull and M16 tat and think.....plonker :P , not you as a plonker mind but tats like that on recruits look like that to guys already in, the only thing worse woul be a Para recruit walking into the Paras with wings or a pegasus or a RM recruit with the G&L, get it after your in and you've necked up to the job

again just my opinion on it :)

Yea, its part of the album cover to Iron maiden, not sure if you've heard of the band. Yea, I know what you boys are saying. I guess it is better to play it safe. Thanks for the advice !!.

Iron Maiden

Its a cool picture, but personally I would wait until you pass out of Basic Training. Then you may opt for the more popular bootneck tatoos.

As for Iron Maiden, I've met Janick Gers a couple of times over the years. He's originally from hartlepool and I knew him when he first set out some years ago when he joined white snake and Gillon. I also knew his brother Chris.

I bumped into Janick last year at Teesside airport and had a very amiable chat with him on the aeroplane. He's a really nice guy and a typical coooool Rock Star. He now lives in Yarm after spending 20 odd years living in London, but remains a strong Hartlepool FC fan. Bless him :D

He recently visited his old school:

Apart from the obvious concerns with regard hepatitis, a tattoo is an open wound, particularly susceptible to infection, particularly when undergoing PRMC or Recruit Training.

It also makes you identifiable which could well limit your list of available specialisations within the Corps, such as SC, ML, Sniper etc., where anonimity is desirable.

Ultimately it's the individuals' choice, but most people with tattoos later wish they hadn't bothered.

My advice? Wait until after completing Commando training.

Wow, jealous of you ste preece. I saw them play here in Toronto last year, was a great show. Loved the band since I was just a kid, like 12 or so. Thanks for all the advice though, I will wait, not worth having something stupid like a tattoo stopping you from your dream.

Thanks

Hello guys,

How much do tattoo's affect the application process, I have 2 on my back, 1 with my name which I stupidly got when I was 15 and the other 1 is quite a large tribal at the top of my back.

It's just that I read somewhere that tattoo's can affect your chance's of getting in:(.

Thanks in advance;)!!

I'm not 100% sure mate but I think the main rules are, not racist or anything in bad taste, and not on the any parts of the body that are visable when you are wearing your short sleeved shirts. So hands and forearms maybe a bit of an issue.

I heard it was relaxed down from this a little while ago although I maybe getting confused with the US forces.

Sorry not much help, but I think Ninja has wrote something previously on the site,. so might be best to have a littl search for "tattoo's" and "Ninja"

All the best

Someone will pop along in the next day or 2 with a decent answer.

All the best

When I was in the AFCO I was asked if I have any tattoos on my hands, face or neck.

I think as long as you're not in that category you're pretty safe. Obviously there will be exceptions but I think you're fine.

Only no offensive tattoo's, or none below your wrist, none about your neck
