From a post on OAMAAM remembering incidents during training.:)

Reading a thread yesterday, being placed on the flank was mentioned. Upon reading this post, I recalled an incident way back in time (early 1970s) involving a young marine whose surname was Dance. I feel sure many on this site will remember him. The occasion took place on the "playground" at CTCRM, the squad were dressed in No2 Blues and were at open order being inspected by a DL who appeared to be particularly enthusiastic.

(Let us use this nickname). Dancer was in either the centre or rear rank, and, by the time the enthusiastic DL arrived to inspect him, quite a number of individuals were already on the flank. Dancer had an uncanny ability to make any uniform he wore resemble a gilly suit, and you may not be surprised to hear that the DL took one look and shouted "dance, on the flank".o_O

Quite naturally, those on the flank did exactly as they were bidden and, obeying the last order to dance on the flank, made like Riverdance or Chubby Checker in parade boots. I had to make an extremely speedy withdraw to my alternative position to do the obvious (bust a gut laughing). This sight I had never seen before or since.:):):):):)

I'm accustomed to being passed by e-bikes when cycling up steep hills but today a mountain bike sped past which clearly had a tiny two-stroke motor bolted to it. The loud buzz and plume of blue exhaust smoke was a giveaway.

This is the country you will be fighting to defend boys and girls. On one level yes it makes us laugh, on the other it makes you just shake your head.

Towards the end of his Independence Day speech on Thursday 4 July, President Trump appeared to rewrite history.

The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown. Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rocket’s red glare, it had nothing but victory.

I also read that he doubled up on lunacy there, because the battle at Fort McHenry didn't happen until thirty years after the war for independence!

There are existing contemporary accounts of outrage expressed by residents of Washington that before the mansion was destroyed by fire '...the Royal Marines violated the closet of the First Lady, who had fled with the President, making free with her corsets and privy garments.'

    Who would have thought it?
