Hi, was wondering is it possible to get transfers between the different commndo groups.... so say someone was in 42 commando and wanted to move to 45 commando. Would this be feasible?

Cheers

I think you just end up where your needed, I think you can apply for certain units but if there's a shortage somewhere else you will have to go there.

Hmm i dunno if thats how it works, i wudda thought if you get assigned to 42 commando then thats where you stay. Unless you wanted to go else where.. .. or they had a serious shortage in 40 or 45 .at least thats how i see it. Obviously looking for clarification.

Cheers

So far as current drafting policy works, you are assigned to a unit for a set period of service- usually a couple of years or more. If you wish to transfer after the drafting period, you may request an alternative billet elsewhere.

In the vast majority of cases, you will get drafted to the unit you prefer from the outset. Quite often, once you specialise, drafts are limited to the number of that particular specialisation within each unit -in other words they will not permit all people equally qualified in one overborne billet whilst leaving another with a shortfall.

You can also request to swap places/jobs with a fellow Marine in a different Commando unit whose qualifications match yours for the job/billet requirements.

Each specialist qualification (SQ) has a return of service, the length governed by the cost.

Whilst in the ideal world, it would be rather nice if we could pick our preferred trades off the shelf, the reality is that you are highly unlikely to end up as a fast jet pilot with SBS qualifications accompanied by experience of an operational tour as a sniper just before you join MI5.

In short: You can apply for whatever you wish, however you can only expect one SQ, two at best.
