heard a story the other week, similar to this, but from 1916. Not sure is the person got a VC for his actions, as I cannot remember his name. But circumstances were similar and he put his life to an end, diving on a grenade in order to save persons round him.

Fair play to mentioned marine, takes some bollocks that does, even if he did only get marks, he must of thought he was going to die, brave brave man.

Has anybody heard of that RMR chap in afghanistan who has been put forward for a Victoria Cross?
He accidentally tripped a tripwire grenade so he lobbed himself on it to save his mates and his backpack/armour took the full force of the blast blowing it to smithareens and sending him across the room with a bloody nose and after he insists on finishing his mission even though the medical blokes were basically ordering him back to base for a checkup
If he doesn't deserve a VC then nobody does in my opinion, first marine since the second world war to get it if he does.:)

here's the news about it http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/06/ntattoo206.xml

yes pretty sure he got the GC saw it on the news. lucky chap to survive but surely that was worth the VC it is pretty hard to be braver than throwing yourself on a trip mine to save your buddies. Maybe because it was a split second decision where he didn't have time to think about it and to get the VC it has to be a more conscious decision. :)
