Here's a good topic for debate for potential officers & anyone else with a view:

"Can you justify the need horses in the UK Armed Forces?"

Either way, I doubt they will be considered for cuts by the current SDSR. With many commissioned ranks owning a large chunk of the Home Counties and some blood relations with a monarchy, probably helps ensure their continued existence. ;)

That would be a real toughy to present , on any course,!! other than tradition & international kudos ...no can,t think of any reason and in these days of cut,s to equipment and personnel , they could save on
1.The horses themselves. Lat count around 500 , ish - we only have just over 300 tanks.!!
2., The training of the horses and riders
    3. Their up keep
    4. Equipment for both horse and rider
    4. Veterinary bills

Sure there is more , Farriers and so on

For me they should have went a while ago.

Not bad seeing as we've only got 77 ships and what's the betting we see that number drop before the horses.
