Hi there, I was just wondering how the Royal Marines simulate combat for training? Do they have other marines play the enemy or hire people to be insurgents for example. Do they use simulation ammo (like rubber bullets)? Or is it just blanks? And how often do they do such simulations to practise?

Thanks in advance!

yes other marines/other parts of the forces play enemy. The majority of exercises use blanks, and there’s a measure of “playing the game” on both sides. Simmunition can be used, and in my eyes is the best for CQB but this form of ammo is very inaccurate at medium to long distances. It’s basically a regular round but the tip is replaced with a plastic tip filled with paint. And it hurts like hell. But really good for training. Then you have TES kit which is like the military adaptation of laser tag, and is generally dog crap.
