I rather liked the answer given by an RM sniper being interviewed on US TV. When asked if he felt anything when he shot someone he replied: Yes, there is a slight recoil on the rifle.

So it was an RM Sniper that said that? I heard it was a USMC Sniper. It's one of those things that everyone claims to own, given the the coolness of the reply.

Ninja:
I might make a thread in the debate section later, but what do you think about William's little adventure holiday tour of the Armed Forces?

You may be correct, it's just that one of the Marines I work with has it as a laminated quote pinned-up next to his desk & it has the guy's name on it, indicating he's RM.

Possibly it is indeed folklore, I'll have to ask if he actually knows the geezer.

Ooh, interesting question.

To be perfectly honest, it would be very easy for anyone to criticise Royalty for their perceived social advantage & lack of knowledge regarding the "Real World".

I've never been a flag-waving Royalist, but I do feel that those that make the effort to actually learn a bit first-hand about the subject before expounding inaccurate opinions are to be respected for their willingness to learn. You have to wonder if you lived in such a world, would you bother to make the effort to find out yourself.

(It's more than can be said for some that have governed us or indeed those that fail to realise that their military act as dictated by those that govern and give them the right to criticise the military freely from the safety of their little ivory towers).
